ORANGE COUNTY

Orange County has some of the best swing venues and swing dancers around. I’m talking mainly about Atomic Ballroom and Strutter’s Ball. They have great instructors and good dancers at their events. And you have to try dancing outdoors at Downtown Disney sometime.

BEE’S KNEES SPEAKEASY AND SWING DANCE

I have not been to this monthly event in Laguna Hills, but here’s a writeup from Alec Marken, host of the event: The Bee’s Knees Speakeasy & Swing Dance is a monthly experience, happening the first Saturday of each month! This is happening because you all keep coming out to show that you do indeed Continue Reading…

DON THE BEACHCOMBER

Don the Beachcomber

Don the Beachcomber is a huge Tiki-themed restaurant and bar in Huntington Beach with three stages. The promoters at B&B’s Musical Thrills want to make this a premiere Swing and Rockabilly dance destination, booking some of the finest bands like Petunia and the Vipers, Deke Dickerson, Dave Stuckey, and Big Sandy. As you enter Don the Beachcomber, make a left Continue Reading…

DISNEYLAND FANTASY FAIRE

Disney Fantasy Faire

There is Swing dancing inside the park every Saturday night at Fantasy Faire! Sometimes there is dancing at Tomorrowland Terrace as well. Here’s a look at the crowd: There is a dedicated group of Swing dancing regulars with season passes that goes, so you can usually find people to dance with. I recommend going in the Continue Reading…

LINDY HOP STOP

Lindy Hop Stop

If you are looking for a wide variety of fun music to dance to, then this is the place for you. Big band, rock and roll, jump blues and of course some Frank, Dean and Louis. Lindy Hop Stop has a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere and equally nice people to dance with. Good for Continue Reading…

ATOMIC BALLROOM

Atomic Ballroom is one of the cornerstone swing venues of Orange County. This venue is attended by dancers of a variety of skill levels. On Tuesdays there’s the Balboa Room, with lessons starting at 6:30PM and dancing at 8:30PM. Fridays, Atomic hosts “the most popular Swing night in Southern California” with lessons at 7PM at Continue Reading…

DOWNTOWN DISNEY

Rumble King at Downtown Disney

Pretty much every week, there are danceable bands that play at Downtown Disney. I will list “Downtown Disney” (which is outside the park and doesn’t require admission) separately from “Disney Fantasy Faire” (which is inside the park and requires admission) in the Lindy Calendar. Please don’t confuse the two! Turnout has been pretty good for these, Continue Reading…

STRUTTER’S BALL

After a brief stint at the Ritz Ballroom next to the Yost Theater in Santa Ana, Strutter’s Ball has a newer location at the Women’s Club of Orange. This is a popular Orange County venue usually featuring DJ’d music, but they sometimes have live bands. If you want to go dancing in Orange County on a Wednesday Continue Reading…
