Live at Cicada Club – THE LES ELGART ORCHESTRA with guest star vocalist TATUM LANGLEY! Back by popular demand! SAT NOVEMBER 23rd!!!!

THE CICADA CLUB proudly presents THE LES ELGART ORCHESTRA, one of the few remaining famous big bands from the 1950s and 1960s that is still in demand! Their popularity gained them their tagline “The Band with THAT Sound!”

Les Elgart wrote “Bandstand Boogie” which became the well-known theme song for Dick Clark’s television program “American Bandstand.” In surveys conducted by Variety, Billboard, and Cashbox in the 1950s and 1960s, the Les Elgart Orchestra was chosen as the Number #1 dance band, among other honors and distinctions. The orchestra also recorded over fifty hit albums with Columbia Records.

The Jackie Gleason Show, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, and a Peter Marshall-hosted edition of “Big Bands at Disneyland” are just a few of the popular television programs where they have made appearances. The band was also featured in the popular 1958 movie “Senior Prom.”

Guest Star vocalist, Tatum Langley, a powerhouse in the big band music scene, known for her electrifying performances. A regular with the famed ensemble Postmodern Jukebox, Tatum captivates audiences with her dynamic stage presence and stunning vocal prowess. When she’s not touring the globe, she lights up the stages of her hometown, Chicago, channeling the legendary spirits of icons like Peggy Lee, Rosemary Clooney, and Jo Stafford. Experience the magic of a bygone era with Tatum’s unforgettable performances that resonate with energy and elegance! Tatum is excited to join the legendary LES ELGART ORCHESTRA for this special l occasion at Cicada Club.

At prestigious venues like The Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, The Savoy Hotel in London, The Everglades Club in Palm Beach, and The Rainbow Room in New York City, they have delighted audiences both nationally and internationally. The orchestra has also performed for proms at many colleges and universities throughout the United States. They’ve also had the honor of providing dance music for US Presidents and Governors. Brazilian, British, and European performances by the Les Elgart Orchestra have taken place all over the world in addition to performing on the Norwegian Cruise Lines, the famous Mississippi Delta Queen, and the Holland America Cruise lines.

In West Palm Beach, Florida, Les Elgart was admitted to the Big Band Hall of Fame in 1986. Les Elgart’s wife Joerene carried on his legacy through his music after his death in 1995. Joerene Elgart sadly passed away in 2022. Both of their presences are truly missed. Today, the Les Elgart Orchestra continues to delight audiences all over the world by keeping Les Elgart & his beautiful music, alive!  The “Elgart Sound” lives forever!

About the Venue: The Cicada Club

The Cicada Restaurant in downtown LA is one of my favorite vintage swing dance venues. You really feel like you’re going back in time when you enter this amazing Art Deco space, which has been featured on many movies and TV shows. The bands on Swing nights are always authentic.

This is primarily a restaurant and bar, not a dedicated Swing dance venue, although there are some great Swing dance nights there. Check the Lindy Calendar to see what nights have Swing dancing. Usually, it’s best to bring your own partner, but sometimes there can be many folks to dance with.

There is a formal dress code – it would be a shame for people in shorts and t-shirts to ruin the 1930’s feel. Plus, can be fun to dress up once in a while, so bring your dance crew and give the Cicada Club a try! Front floor is somewhat small, but you can also dance on the marble floor upstairs which is usually empty.
